“They came highly prepared; I was impressed by the depth of their research on the specific accent we wanted our host to learn. Josh is very professional and easy to work with. I'd recommend them to anyone who wants to learn more about speech work!”

Testimonials

“Josh was a phenomenal coach and went above and beyond to be accommodating of our needs for this production. Before bringing them in for this project, I had the privilege of being Josh's student - so when I needed an accent coach, they immediately came to mind. It has always been a delight to work with Josh, and I hope we'll have more opportunities to work together soon!”

Rebecca Klein, Producer, Garden of Voices

“Working with Josh was wonderful (on The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity). They brought both experience, deep expertise and a ton of respect for culture and context to the process. They also were admirably flexible on working with our calendar and budget to craft a package that did a lot in a short timeframe. The character exploded into life once Josh helped our actor find the character's voice. And by the way, this process was entirely remote and no less productive for being over zoom.”

Josh Hecht, Artistic Director, Profile Theatre Portland

“Josh helped me craft the dialect for the NuYorican character Alejandro in the play Welcome to Arroyo's by Christopher Diaz, produced by Profile Theatre in Portland, Oregon. Josh was my first dialect coach and I felt lucky because Josh was patient, encouraging and knowledgeable. Josh helped me recognize that I'm a visual learner so when we talked about the dialect not only was I able to see how the instrument works and what part of the mouth is activated, but we also made notes in the script of how it would sound phonetically. I'm so happy I got to work with them and I'm looking forward to working with them on my next projects.”

Jonathan Hernandez, Actor

“I met Josh in 2022 through the recommendation of a friend when I had an audition that requested a New Jersey accent, which wasn’t exactly my specialty. In the two sessions I worked with Josh, they worked magic for me taking me from sounding like a bad stereotype of someone from Jersey to something much more natural and authentic. Their clear, friendly instruction put me at ease and their technical descriptions about the structures of the sounds we were aiming for really resonated with me. Josh will be top of my list for any future dialect/accent needs! Highly recommend!”

Megan Simcox, Actor

“I did accent coaching (German, Southern and French) with Josh, and it was always a fun and enjoyable time. They are very knowledgeable and specific in identifying the characteristics of each accent, which allowed me to separate my approaches to each accent such that I don't confuse myself when doing the accents. They were also detailed in describing the physical placements of the mouth when explaining the characteristics of each accent, which really helped me a lot as I am a person who tends to mostly only grasp the feeling of an accent when learning one, so having the technical knowledge to produce the sounds of an accent helped me with doing accents more accurately. Most importantly, Josh provided a very comfortable and safe space for me to practice in.”

Lauren Choo, Voiceover Actor

“Josh worked with our company (Romeo and Juliet at Utah Shakespeare Festival) to make sure we felt safe approaching them about any needs or concerns. They offered techniques for supporting vocal health, combating fatigue and prolonging sustainability. They helped guide us through a very emotional scene where several actors had to weep and wail through the text. The scene ended up feeling freer and deeper because of the time spent with Josh!”

Alex Keiper, Actor

“I learned so many tools from when Josh was my Voice and Speech teacher - many I'm still using today. I really loved how they helped me build and customise a vocal warmup that is specific to my voice and even further than that, that I can customise for specific projects. They were also my first teacher to delve into the world of accents and dialects. They helped take something that was scary and made it easy. I’m Australian, and there have been so many times have I done show in an American accent and then met people after the show and they had no idea that it wasn't my natural accent. A lot of that stems from Josh and their teachings.”

Rebecca Ho, Actor

“I met Josh at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where they were my Voice & Speech teacher. Josh provided a safe, professional, fun, creative, fluid, encouraging and incredibly insightful space to learn and grow. It was during my time with them that  I decided that I would attend graduate school. Josh encouraged me, and coached me privately for the next few months in preparation for my grad school auditions. I still to this day carry with me the tools that they taught me, and I got accepted to grad school with Josh's help. Josh genuinely takes the time to care for the people they teach and work with. I highly recommend working with Josh.”

Elizabeth Carlsen, Actor

“I met Josh during my time as an MFA Acting student at Brown/Trinity Rep. As a dialect coach, I found them to be especially sharp in their instruction and diligent in their preparation. At one point, I remember asking Josh if they could teach as an Australian dialect - they let me know, with a smile, that they had work to do to master that dialect before they could teach it. At first I thought this was a polite way of saying "Nice idea, but no" - I was so wrong!! Josh came back the next week with not only a mastery of the dialect, but a total readiness to instruct that dialect from scratch. They're a wonderfully talented dialect coach.”
